What's new in Peil

• Scheduled sending is punctual. Pick 10:45 and the invoice leaves at 10:45. Previously it could slip by up to a day, and a time without a timezone was sometimes read as UTC — an Amsterdam 10:45 then went out at 12:45. Your time is now read in the timezone set in your settings.
• A settled invoice keeps its date. Email a paid or archived invoice again and the invoice date and due date stay as they were. The payment term doesn’t restart.
• Reminders follow the same rule as sending by hand. Automatic reminders only go out from a verified account. If your account isn’t verified yet you’ll now see that in Settings, instead of a toggle that looks on while nothing is sent.
• Delivery stays reliable. We monitor the reputation of our sending domain and cap how much email one account can send per day. All Peil mail leaves from the same domain, so this keeps delivery healthy for everyone. The cap sits well above normal use.

A maintenance pass on security. You won’t notice it day to day, but two things are worth naming.

• Your logo stays yours. The logo you upload for your invoices was reachable from outside your own account under certain conditions. That’s fixed; a logo is now only accessible from the account that uploaded it.
• Signing up is protected against abuse. The registration form and the public lookup functions are now rate-limited, so automated signups can no longer create accounts in bulk.
• Sessions show the right location again. Your session overview listed the same server address for every session instead of where you actually signed in. New sessions now show the real location.

Filling in hours

• The grid works like a spreadsheet. Select a run of days by dragging or shift-clicking, copy and paste between Peil and your spreadsheet, and duplicate a row to the next day. Deleting can be undone.
• Press ? for the shortcuts. A short overview of what’s possible, so you don’t have to memorise it.
• The same selection works in the invoice editor, so picking hours for an invoice behaves the same way.

Figures that add up

Four faults that made your administration come out wrong. All four are fixed and applied retroactively: your existing hours have been corrected, you don’t need to re-enter anything.

• Hours were sometimes booked at €0.00 per hour even though your rate history held a rate. The rate is now derived from your rate history, using the date of the entry itself — so backdated hours bill at the rate that applied then.
• Internal hours didn’t count toward the 1,225-hour threshold. Hours without a client dropped out of the count, which made it look like you were below the threshold when you weren’t. In a reference account that was 433.75 hours counted as 389.25 — over 10%, in exactly the wrong direction.
• Revenue from hours could disappear from your overviews when a project had no type set. That could report an average hourly rate of €0 across hundreds of hours worked.
• Editing a row inline dropped its activity. The description was saved, the activity attached to it was not.

Peil has its own connection now. You can work on your administration without opening the app — from Claude, for instance.

• Log hours and draft invoices in plain language. “Put three hours on Van Dijk for yesterday” or “draft an invoice from this month’s unbilled hours” works the way you’d say it. Client and project names are recognised, so you never have to look up an id.
• Ask where you stand. Your assistant can pull your orientation figures — revenue so far, what’s outstanding, how far you are from the 1,225-hour threshold.
• Invoices stay drafts until you send them. An assistant can draft and prepare; sending happens on your word alone. Every safeguard from the app still applies: a paid invoice stays undeletable, invoiced hours stay protected.
• You decide what each key may do. You create a key with exactly the rights you want to hand out — read only, or write hours too, or allowed to send — and you can give it an expiry date. Your settings show when a key was used and what for.

You’ll find it under Settings → Developer. Part of Pro.

• Your client portal gets your own address. Instead of a Peil address, the portal opens at yourname.peil.app. Your client sees your name in the address bar, not ours. Part of white-label for Pro.
• Existing links keep working. Everything you sent earlier stays valid — you don’t have to correct a single old invoice email.
• You pick your address in Settings. A number of names are reserved (such as login, secure and pay), so a portal address can never be mistaken for an official Peil page. Pick one of those and you’ll see it flagged in the field right away.

The app and this website shared one address, which occasionally caused blank pages and links that got stuck. They’re now separated.

• The app opens at app.peil.app. peil.app is from now on just this website.
• You sign in once more. The move ends your current session. After that you won’t notice anything.
• Installed Peil as an app on your phone? Install it again from app.peil.app so the icon points at the right address.
• Old links keep working. Bookmarks and links in emails sent earlier redirect you automatically.
• Logos on invoices sometimes failed to load. Same cause, fixed along with it.

Online payments (Pro)

• Your client can now pay straight from the client portal. Unpaid invoices show a “Pay now” button. The money lands in your own Mollie account — never Peil’s. You connect your own Mollie key under Settings → Reminders → Online payments.
• The button is in the email too. Invoice and reminder emails show a “Pay now” button that goes directly to checkout, with the portal link underneath. Your client doesn’t have to click through the portal first.
• Paid is paid. As soon as your client pays, the invoice is marked paid automatically and you get one email about it. Nothing to tick off by hand. An invoice paid through Mollie can’t be set back to unpaid: that status comes from Mollie, and a refund shows up there.

Sent emails

• Settings → Reminders → Sent emails shows everything Peil sent on your behalf, with delivery status: sent, opened, or not delivered. You can click through from the list to the invoice it belongs to.

Improvements

• Amounts in the Financial Lab were wrong for fixed monthly fees. Revenue from retainer agreements was counted twice in the waterfall and the safety net. Fixed — the figures add up again.
• Saving an invoice sometimes returned an error. Fixed.
• The portal now shows “Overdue” once the due date has passed, instead of a reassuring “Outstanding”.
• Reminders now include the link to all invoices for that client.
• “Invoice language” is now “Communication language” — the setting drives the language of the invoice, the email and the portal alike.

The invite code is gone: anyone can sign up.

• 90 days of Pro if you sign up now. That’s exactly one Dutch VAT quarter — the shortest window in which you live through a complete financial cycle and can fairly judge whether Peil is worth it.
• After that, the founding-member rate: €9 a month or €90 a year, instead of €12 and €120. That rate stays attached to your account for as long as you subscribe, even if the price rises later.
• Anyone who already used Peil during the private phase keeps Pro, permanently. Nothing to do.
• Signing up later? You get the usual 30-day trial with all Pro features.

You’ll hear from us before your period ends, so nothing comes as a surprise.

• You can delete your own account. You get an email with a cancel link and a grace period; only after that is your data permanently erased. If a subscription is still running it’s cancelled automatically — you’ll never keep paying for an account that’s gone.
• Terms and privacy policy are online, in Dutch and English. You’ll find them at the bottom of every page.
• New accounts start with a trial in which all Pro features are open. You’ll hear from us before it ends.
• The full English version of this site is complete — about, philosophy, blog and pricing.

• Pro can be billed yearly: €120 instead of 12 × €12. Two months free, paid at once. Monthly stays available; you choose at checkout.
• Every payment produces a VAT invoice. You’ll find one per payment under Settings → Subscription and can open it as a PDF. The amount includes 21% Dutch VAT, with the net amount and the VAT listed separately — so you can book Peil properly as a business expense.
• Managing your subscription is one place. Settings → Subscription shows your status, payment method and payment history, and is where you cancel or resume.
• Cancelling lets you keep Pro until the end of your period. You don’t pay for time you won’t use, but you also don’t lose what you already paid for. Before you confirm, you see exactly which features fall back to free.
• Changed your mind? You can resume without re-entering your payment details.
• If a payment fails, we say so — with a calm notice in the app and an email, rather than quietly withdrawing your access.
• The pricing page is accurate again. It listed a limit of 3 invoices a month on the free plan that doesn’t exist: invoicing is and stays unlimited on free, with one template.

A clarity pass over the Financial Lab. The page should read as a navigation instrument, not an erratic report.

The sum is right

• The breakdown of your NER didn’t add up to the result above it. The rows totalled €29.24 against a stated €31.25. The business-costs row used your current monthly spend while the result was computed from your tax-deductible costs — two different figures side by side. The breakdown now foots exactly, including when you count non-billable hours.
• The tax row now uses your actual projected tax, not the percentage you set aside. Your net effective rate is a structural measure, so it belongs locked to what you genuinely owe. Your reserve percentage stays where it belongs: in the Safety net.

Correct figures

• The self-employed deduction was still showing an old amount. Corrected in the explanatory notes to €1,200 for 2026.

Clearer language

• One concept, one name. Terms that differed per screen are now aligned, so the same figure is called the same thing everywhere.
• “Free” is gone from the income wording. It promised too much: your personal living costs still come off it.
• The section is now called Safety net, and the monthly figures below it make clear what is cash right now and what is a projection over the year.
• Pension shows an explanatory note when you contribute nothing while employment would — the dash is now a prompt to think about it rather than an empty cell.

• Turn the KOR on in your settings and Peil adjusts everywhere: the VAT selector disappears from the invoice editor, the total shows no VAT, and the PDF carries the legally required notice — “op grond van artikel 25 Wet OB 1968 is geen btw berekend”. This works across all four invoice templates, in Dutch and English.
• You get a heads-up near the threshold. If your projected revenue passes €17,000, a calm notice appears on your dashboard. The KOR threshold sits at €20,000, so you have room to act rather than overshooting it. The notice can be dismissed.
• Coming back to onboarding keeps your data. You don’t restart at step 1 but see your current rate, hours and living costs already filled in.

Reminders

• Peil chases unpaid invoices for you. You set which day and time reminders may go out; after that it happens on its own. Chasing an outstanding invoice is the most unpleasant part of working for yourself — this takes it off your plate without your client receiving a cold collections email.
• Each invoice has a timeline: sent, opened, reminded, paid. You know whether an invoice arrived instead of guessing.
• You can have an invoice go out on a future date.
• Delivery is tracked end to end. If an invoice doesn’t arrive or the address is wrong, you see it as a label in your invoice list — not when your client calls.

Client portal

• Your client views their invoices on their own link, without creating an account. Every sent invoice is there, with the PDF.
• The link is created as soon as you send the first invoice.

Also

• Completing your profile after registration now has its own step, instead of being hidden in settings.
• Your timezone is taken from your system instead of defaulting to UTC.
• Your client’s language carries through everywhere — invoice, email and portal.
• A run of fixes, including the legal notice for reverse-charge VAT on all four templates.

Peil gets a paid plan, with a clear line between what stays free and what is Pro.

• Orientation stays free, and that’s a deliberate choice. The dashboard, the full Financial Lab and importing your data cost nothing. Knowing where you stand is exactly what Peil exists for — we don’t put a lock on it.
• Pro is for the work that goes outward: emailing invoices from Peil, automatic reminders, recurring invoices, your own invoice design, and fixed-price and retainer projects.
• Payment runs through Mollie, with iDEAL and the methods you’re used to.
• Cancel and you lose nothing. Your data stays and your invoices fall back to the default template — you lose access to features, never to your own records.

You’ll find your plan under Settings → Subscription.

• Invoices render noticeably faster. The PDF engine underneath Peil has been replaced; the preview appears more quickly as you type.
• Four invoice templates: Modern, Klassiek, Peil and Studio.
• A dedicated design page for your invoices. You set typeface, weight and letter spacing, drag your margins, place your header and footer, and adjust the table styling. The preview follows along live.
• Peil works on your phone. The dashboard, time tracking, invoices, clients, projects and the Financial Lab have all been reworked for small screens.
• This website has been rebuilt and is now faster, with a blog and pages about our philosophy. Your language choice is remembered with your account.
• Email verification is required before you can download or send invoices, plus a run of security improvements.

The first major version of Peil as you know it now.

Dashboard

• Laid out like a newspaper, not a collection of widgets. At the top, the figure that matters — invoiced this year, paid and outstanding, and whether you’re ahead of or behind last year.
• A desk of what needs attention: overdue invoices, invoices open for 30 days, and hours you haven’t invoiced yet. Every item links through to where you handle it.
• A full tax projection under Dutch rules, with every deduction broken out, plus your blended and net effective hourly rate.
• Your client concentration: what share of your revenue comes from which client. Depending on one client is something you want to see before it becomes a problem.

Time tracking

• A monthly grid where you enter hours directly, with bulk actions.
• A ledger view with inline editing and totals that foot at the bottom.
• Billable or internal: hours without a client are marked internal automatically and don’t count toward revenue, but do count toward the 1,225-hour criterion.

Invoicing

• From hours to invoice in one pass: pick your client, tick your hours, and the lines are there — with a live preview alongside.
• A warning when hours already sit on another draft, with a shortcut to it.
• Recurring invoices that queue the next draft automatically once paid.
• Guardrails against accidents: a paid invoice can’t be deleted, a sent invoice asks for confirmation, and hours attached to an invoice are protected.
• Projects in three shapes: folder, fixed price and retainer, with budget burn in view. A fixed-price project closes itself once it’s paid.

Financial Lab

• A waterfall from revenue to what you keep, expandable per engagement and per cost.
• Safety net analysis: how many months you can go, with your reserves broken down into tax, buffer, disability insurance and pension.
• Comparison with employment, in both directions: what a gross salary means as a rate, and the reverse.

Also

• Fully available in Dutch and English, with proper Dutch financial terminology.
• Session management with an overview of where you’re signed in.
